About us

A foundation built on the belief that no mother should walk this road alone.

Positive Direction Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit dedicated to pregnant women living with substance use and alcohol use disorders. We educate, advocate, and walk beside each mother — from her first prenatal visit through a phenomenal birth and into the years that follow.

Hands in support

Our story

Positive Direction Foundation, Inc. was founded by Dr. Davina Moss, PhD, CRC, CASAC, with one mission: that every woman deserves the right to a phenomenal birth experience and gentle support through postpartum. Dr. Moss saw first hand the treatment that mothers experienced and decided to build a program based on education and access to prenatal and postpartum care.

The Positive Direction Model® is a structured, person-centered, evidence-informed intervention that keeps the mother at the center — pairing medical guidance with deep, sustained navigator support from a positive pregnancy test through postpartum and beyond.

Today, the foundation continues to grow under Dr. Moss's leadership, supporting mothers, training clinicians in trauma-informed perinatal care, and building a network of mentors and advocates committed to dignified recovery for every woman who walks through our doors.

Our mission

Care that meets mothers exactly where they are.

To ensure that every pregnant woman living with a substance or alcohol use disorder has access to compassionate, judgment-free care; the education she needs to make informed decisions about her body and her baby; and the human companionship to carry her through to a phenomenal birth and a thriving family life.

We pursue that mission through three commitments: direct support of mothers in our programs, education and training of the clinicians who serve them, and tireless advocacy for policies that treat addiction in pregnancy as a health condition — not a crime.

What we stand for

Six values that shape every decision.

Dignity first

Every interaction begins with respect for the whole mother — her past, her choices, her hopes.

Evidence and empathy

We pair clinical best practice with the lived expertise of mothers in recovery.

Long-term presence

We don't disappear after delivery. We stay — through the first year and far beyond.

Mother-led design

Program decisions are shaped by the women we serve, not made for them in their absence.

Family preservation

Whenever it is safe and possible, we work to keep mothers and babies together.

Confidential

Trust is the foundation of recovery.
